Just helping out

Well, Rebecca is in with Luke, putting him to bed. She's given me the task of crafting an update, so here goes.

One of the things that I'm trying to do better at is taking Luke in the morning when he's just waking up and not making Rebecca get up until I have to start getting ready for work.

We have some fun that way. The house is pretty open and Luke has fairly free range from the family room up through the kitchen and into a hallway that borders his room and the living room.

So the other morning, as we were hanging out, I got into a book I was reading, and Luke was playing. And all of the sudden, I sat up and realized that it was awfully quiet. Which, in baby talk, means "I've found something great that I probably shouldn't be into."

The following is what I found in the living room.

This box was right over on it's side, and all I could see was the top of Luke's head. "Hey Dad, I'm just helping to unpack a little more. Trying to contribute, you know, make your life easier."

"Yep, found that hat, this piece of plastic, some other little containers. If it's okay, instead of putting them where they belong, I'm going to just strew them across the floor."

"Hey Dad, I see you there with the camera. Are you going to put this on the internet for my grandparents to see? Really? Cool! Here's my goofy smile. Now, turn out the flash. It's too bright. And I've got unpacking to do!"

Written update

Luke is full of fun these days. He has recently decided that he really loves it when Daddy comes home and it is really cute. When I hear the door I tell Luke that "Daddy's home" and he gets this huge open mouthed grin on his face and starts kicking until Andrew gets in the room. It is precious. He has now learned to understand "daddy" in sign language and I love that. That joins the ranks of milk, mommy, more, and food, that I can think of. The only one he signs back with any consistency is more, and that's pretty darn cute. He brings an awful lot of joy to our days. And an awful lot of exhaustion.

He's still helping me unpack... we've got a lot still to unpack. But, now that we're all feeling better it's coming along much more quickly. I didn't feel up to much of anything until this week. Luke has learned to pull up in the last few weeks and has really begun to perfect it this week. He's constantly pulling up on whatever is close by (even those cabinet doors which result in a smacked hand EVERY time). It's so neat to see him learning new things. He is also teething up a storm. One of his bottom teeth is completely through now, and the other is on the verge. It seems like at least one of his top teeth is coming through. Today at Kroger he was gnawing on a bottle of marinade (I know, I know, completely unsanitary) and I happened to look down and saw blood all over the top of the bottle. It seems that he either has a slight cut on his top gum, or his tooth is coming through. I felt bad for the poor guy. Although Andrew noticed him running his tongue across his upper gums this morning... Maybe a precursor?

Anyway, I can't find the cable to connect the camera to the computer, so pictures will have to wait for now. I was embarrassed the other day when I said to Andrew that I don't think I've taken ANY pictures since we moved here. None. Not a one. So, I just missed about three weeks of my sons life, which at this age, is quite a bit. Hopefully I'll be better about that soon. For now, enjoy another written update.

Busy

A brief update in our life... It's still crazy as I'm still getting over being sick. It seems Luke is over it, but he has bouts of acting sick, plus he's still teething so he's been a bit of a grouch lately. We're still far from unpacked, which is a major bummer to me. I was hoping to be ensconced in several projects by now, but just haven't been up to it yet. However, most of the basics are done, and hopefully this week will be better. Luke is currently crawling all over his daddy, who is lying on the floor with him. Pretty darn cute. I'm so glad that Andrew has today off work. It's a lovely break for all of us.

Anyway, I know this wasn't much of an update, but I'm hoping to make more efforts in the blogging world this week, complete with pictures. For now, we're here, we're moved, and we're getting better!

Crazy Times

"It seems it's always the crazy times. You'll find you'll wake up and realize..."

Life has certainly been crazy lately. It's hard to believe that we're moving in just five short days. Luke and I have been downstairs going through clothes. I am happy to say that in that brief excursion and the four boxes we went through, three of those boxes are being donated. Yay for more space! Luke enjoyed grabbing anything within his reach (he was in the sling) and was pretty impressed when I introduced him to my old pal Benjamin Bear. I wish I had his reaction on camera. It was pretty cute. He also enjoying playing with a fabric bow that came with one of the beautiful bouquets of flowers that Andrew sent me while we were engaged.

Also, today is Luke's nine-month.... er, month day? Well, he's nine months old today! It's hard to believe that he's already that old. Before we know it, we'll be celebrating his 1st birthday. In a new house. Yikes. He's a great kid, and we're blessed to have him. I can't wait to see what things he will learn this month. I'd love to list all the things he has mastered over the last month, but I don't have time! Although, he's almost to pulling up, he currently wobbles on one knee while trying to get his other foot under him. Too cute. He's very efficient at crawling around (still army crawl, I wonder if he'll ever "really" crawl?) and sitting up and getting back down, etc. And, my favourite new acquisition was when he began to sign "more" last week on Mum Mackay's birthday (also known as Boxing Day, or the day after Christmas). We were pretty excited over that. I'm hoping to have a video of it up sometime, but probably not soon. I am not planning on blogging much at all for the next weeks, so don't be dissapointed at the lack of posts.

Anyway, so much for getting things done during nap time. I hear a baby who just knocked (threw?) his soother out of his crib. There went the other one...

Luke Hates Packing

I'd say this about sums it up... :)

Luke cries every time I tape a box shut. Maybe he's telling us he want's to stay here? Mean old Mommy actually set it up so that I could get this face on camera. Of course, when I did, I felt SO guilty... It's bad enough making him cry when I need to. Anyway I hope he gets used to the sound of tape. I think it just scares him. Of course, he's afraid of the vacuum too. Maybe because he's only seen it a few times in his life? That's like the mom who realized she simply doesn't vacuum enough when her two year old sees her vacuuming and excitedly asks, "Is Grandma coming over?"

First Blood

This was a while back when Luke was still shaky at sitting up. He wiped out and we saw our first blood. He was so sad... It was only a few drops, but I'm sure it seemed like more to him!
